Extracts, also known as tinctures, are highly concentrated solutions made by soaking fresh or dried herbs in an alcohol (typically vodka or brandy) or glycerin solution for 4-6 weeks. The alcohol acts as a solvent to extract and embody the medicinal properties of the plants. Extracts last for many, many years and are easy to store and travel with! Suggested Use: each extract is labeled with specific dosages, but in general extracts are consumed by the dropper-full in a small amount of water.WHAT IS A DROPPER-FULL? A dropper-full is the amount of liquid that is pulled into the dropper when the top is squeezed. (It does not actually fill the entire length of the dropper!) 1/4 teaspoon = 30 drops = 1 dropper full
BLACK BIRCH EXTRACT:
This sweet tasting tincture is liquid pain relief! The bark of the Black Birch tree, Betula lenta (aka sweet birch), is known for its pain relieving qualities. The bark contains Salicylic Acid, the compound that gives aspirin the same abilities! Harvested in early spring, before its leaves bud out, when the plant’s energies are concentrated in the bark, this extract can be used as a general pain reliever, much the way one would use aspirin. If you can find this tree in the woods chew on a stick – it tastes like wintergreen!
